#2 has to be the first film to truly test me as a film watcher. This was probably the first film to make me actually think when watching it. It was also the first Chris Nolan film I watched, although truth be told I did not know this until some time after. Released in the year 2000 Nolan takes you on a journey with a man with severe short term memory loss. But he doesn’t just weave a compelling story. He does it backwards.
The whole film is played out in reverse. You already know the outcome but you need to put it all together. It was GENIUS!
People say oh yeah it’s not like thats never happened before where the start of the film is actually the end. But Nolan did it in a way which just fucked with you. He made you feel sorrow for a character and then flipped it, making you hate that same character. It was madness! I’d also like to point out that Guy Pearce in this film is a LEGEND. He plays the role so well. I especially like the black and white phone call segments within the film. Purely fucks with you more.
If I ever had a top 10 list of films (I don’t because I don’t like rating films like that) this would be up there.
I met Sammy through work. Insurance. I was an investigator.
